| In the south-western corner of the country, 390km from Nairobi, lies a vast rolling plain beneath the Mara escarpment, striped black once a year by millions of wildebeest and zebra migrating north from the Serengeti plains. During the migration season (July/August) the reserve’s resident lions lounge prominently in the sun, fat and seemingly placid. There are 13 tented camps and two lodges in the reserve. Maasai tribes people live on the reserve’s fringes and are co-owners of the reserve, sharing in revenues from tourism. This 1672km² reserve is one of Africa’s premier wildlife destinations, and boasts all the big game species. Besides the normal safari activities, it is also possible to go hot air ballooning across the plains, one of the finest ways to see Africa’s wildlife. The Maasai Mara is the most popular wildlife reserve in Kenya, offering t he best animal viewing in the country. It is an extension of the Serengeti Plains in Tanzania. On these wide-open rolling grasslands you can often see an amazing variety of animals.

the riverine forest in front of the lodge to a thatched sundowner bar overlooking the plains of the Mara and a pool with a resident hippo. There are no fences around Keekorok and it is not uncommon to see elephant and on the perimeter of the grounds or even strolling in. |

| The setting is magical. So much so, that almost a century ago, it was reserved exclusively for Kenya's Colonial Governors and their Royal visitors. Now Governors' Camp nestles in a forest along the winding banks of the Mara River, its waters teeming |
| with hippo and crocodile. It is situated in the heart of the best game-viewing area of the Maasai Mara, home to the highest concentration of animals and birds on the continent.
Accommodation: The camp consists of 38 tents, all in the classic safari style, spacious and tasteful. The entire camp is under canvas with all the comforts of a five- star hotel. Some line the riverbank, others have views across the sweeping plains. Each has its own en-suite bathroom with constant hot and cold running water, flushing toilets, even bidets. Miles from civilization, our cordon-bleu dinners, by candlelight under canvas, are a truly unforgettable experience.
Activities: Throughout the year the Maasai Mara is a place of natural drama, a kaleidoscope of color and life. After the rains, when the first flush of grass turns the Mara's golden savannah green, the most mesmerizing wildlife spectacle anywhere takes place here: the Great Migration. This is the time when one and a half million wildebeest, accompanied by vast numbers of zebra and gazelles make the long and dangerous trek from drier lands in Tanzania, northwards to this corner of Kenya. |

Mara Simba was conceived, not just as an overnight stop but as a safari resort, as the ultimate lodge in the Maasai Mara. The emphasis is on exclusivity and comfort, the ambiance is Maasai, the decor incorporating ethnic design elements from the culture of the proud tribe in whose realm the lodge is set. The grounds extend almost a kilometre along the Talek River. The river bank is left in its virgin state, while further back lush, |
|
landscaped gardens of indigenous plants and trees, attract colorful birds and butterflies. Wide, well-lit pathways link guest rooms and public areas. The lodge, overlooking a dramatic bend in the river, is designed to complement its natural setting.
Mara Simba is the only lodge in Kenya which has installed a Waste Water Treatment Plant. This plant treats all the sewage and produces crystal clear water which is then used for irrigation. We are truly the only environmentally friendly lodge in Kenya.
