 and the variety of wildlife is astounding: elephant and buffalo, herds of wildebeest, zebra and antelope and, for the sharp-eyed, even lion basking in the early morning sun. An hour or so later you will land on the still-dewy plain for a mouthwatering breakfast.
Balloon safaris are operated in the Maasai Mara and Taita Hills in Kenya and the Serengeti in Tanzania.
Golf: Golfing at Leisure Lodge on Kenya's South Coast
Situated 35 km south of Mombasa on the shores of the Indian Ocean are the beautiful white sands of Diani Beach. Here lies a 18-hole championship golf course of excellent quality completed in May 1998. Each golf hole has five teeing positions, ranging from Championship to ladies front tees.
The fairways are planted with Tifton grass, while the greens have "Country Club' grass from Natal, South Africa. There are over eighty bunkers on the course. Water features prominently on three holes with the final water feature (as yet incomplete) where crocodiles will await unsuspecting golfers.
This magnificent par 72-golf course, which is fully irrigated has further challenges from the northeast monsoon winds blowing for five months of the year and from the southeast for the rest of the time. This ensures a reasonably cool game throughout the day.
The course has many well-established trees including thousand year old Baobabs, coconut and palm trees. There is an excellent driving range where a resident golf professional is always available to give you lessons.
A clubhouse serves refreshing cool drinks and tasty snacks. The Leisure Lodge Golf Course is without doubt both fair and challenging. With its water hazards and daunting bunkers it's a test for the most proficient golfer and will be voted top in Africa.
